The Field In Between 36"x33" Mixed Media on paper, Original Available | Print Available
This painting was created from a reference photo taken while exploring the neighborhood, La Boca, in Buenos Aires. La Boca is the old settlement at the mouth of the River, Riachuelo. It has become a bit of a tourist attraction, especially around the river, but behind that area is the real neighborhood. It's this locale that is the most compelling for its colorful, clapboard structures nestled between once grand edifices. As I collected material for the painting, my companion kept reminding me that the area could be dangerous and that we should egress before sundown. Eventually tiring of his alarm, I agreed to retreat . As we left the area I held my camera overhead and snapped photos over walls and through archways. This painting evolved from one of those perspectives.
